Back Together Again

A Tribute to Andrew Schrage

By Jake Speed and the Freddies

(He was the) boy leaving the river
Headin’ from the fishin’ hole
Cool fog and a dog by his side
Luggin’ back a busted pole

(There was a) Long cast in the shallows
Hook snagged on a rock
Snapped rod, had to reel her back in
And put things back together again

Chorus:
Sometimes our life’s like a river
Sometimes our fish get away
Sometimes the world seems to fall apart
But he’d just put things back together again

He was the young man leaning on a Chevy
Pick up broke down again
Tool box and popped up hood
Grease on both of his hands

Flashlight on the motor
Long haul ‘fore she runs
Bad part – he’d feel it out by heart
And put things back together again

Chorus:
Sometimes our life’s like a pickup
Sometimes our ride breaks down
Sometimes the world seems to fall apart
But he’d just put things back together again

BRIDGE:
He must have seen a darkened sky
He must have known that it would fall
He must, he must have left us all
To repair a broken pearly gate
and put things back together again

Now his sweetheart’s down by the river
(Huggin’ on) a fixed up fishin’ pole
Grieving to a fading sun
In a pickup all alone

She casts out a question
How will I heal?
Who’ll fix this broken heart
And put things back together again?

Sometimes our life’s just a question
Sometimes no answers come
Sometimes the world seems to fall apart
But we just put things back together again

Sometimes his life was the river
Sometimes it was a pickup truck
I like to think I, too, was a part
That he’ll just put back together again
(one day) put back together again
we’ll be put back together again
